Effective October 1, 2018, CCAPP discontinued accepting paper hardcopy applications for initial CADC I, CADC II, CADC III or LAADC credentials. Links to those applications can be found on the CCAPP website under the credentialing tab.  All hardcopy applications received after the October 1st date will be returned to the sender.

The career ladder is designed to advance upward. It is not permissible to step down the ladder from any level.

Registry and Certification

The following credentials are approved for employment in a licensed or certified facility:

RADT

Registered Alcohol Drug Technician

Requirements: 
Completion of Nine Hour Orientation Course (Ethics) 
Completed RADT Application 
Signed California SUD Counselor Code Of Conduct 
Signed RADT Scope of Practice 
Renewal is Due Annually 
Must document progress toward certification with renewal 
Must complete three hours of counselor ethics and professional boundaries every renewal

CADC-I

Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor I

Requirements: 
315 hours approved, AOD specific education 
255 hours of supervised work experience (field practicum)
Passing score on the IC&RC Written Exam 
Applicants with 315 hours of AOD education: 3,000 hours of work experience 
Renewal every two years (continuing education required)

Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor II

Requirements: 
315 hours approved, AOD specific education 
255 hours of supervised work experience (field practicum)
Passing score on the IC&RC written exam 
Applicants with 315 hours of AOD education: 6,000 or Applicants with a bachelor of arts degree in behavioral science or allied mental health profession: 4,000 hours of work experience 
Renewal every two years (continuing education required)

4,000 hours work experience in SUD counseling (2,080 hours must be completed post graduate degree)

Certified Clinical Supervisor

Requirements: 
Completion of a total of 56 hours in continuing counselor education from a CCAPP approved provider, with 6 hours in ethics and 6 hours in clinical supervision included in the total. Up to 10 hours of professional development hours may be completed towards the total 56 hours required;

Signed CCAPP Code of Conduct for Credentialed Alcohol and Drug Professionals;

Signed State of California AOD Counselor Code of Conduct;

Signed CCAPP Statement of Understanding;

Application fee due every 2 years upon renewal:

CCJP

Certified Criminal Justice Professional

Requirements: 
270 hours of addiction-specific education

300 hour supervised practicum 
6,000 hours work experience in criminal justice setting 
Passing score on the IC&RC Certified Criminal Justice Professional Exam

CCPS

California Certified Prevention Specialist

Requirements: 
Completed CCPS Application 
Signed CCPS Code of Ethics/Conduct and Scope of Practice
Proof of current enrollment in an AODA studies program/classes 
Payment of registration fee.

 

Recovery Related Credentials

Certified Peer Recovery Specialist

500 hours paid or volunteer experience 
25 hours supervised work experience 
Passing score on the IC&RC Peer Recovery Examination

CRPM

Certified Recovery Program Manager

Requirements: 
Completion of thirty-six hour CCAPP Institute Management Training Course or equivalent 
Three years full time experience in AOD recovery programs 
Two years management, supervision, or administration experience 
Submission of a typewritten self-evaluation identifying management philosophy and experience 
Submission of a written vision of your future in the recovery field 
Three letters of recommendation 
Oral review before a panel of experienced recovery program managers

SLS

Sober Living Specialist

Requirements: 
Completion of the CAARR Institute/CCAPP Academy Sober Living Specialist education program 
Three letters of reference

PRC

Professional Recovery Coach

 

 

Specialty Credentials

Must currently be a certified or licensed addiction counselor to receive an endorsement.

MATS

Medication Assisted Treatment Specialist

Requirements: 
Certification or licensure as an alcohol/drug counselor 
Certificate of Completion for each training/course attended OR school transcripts 
Letter from agency employer or supervisor attesting to hours of experience in medication assisted treatment specialty services 
Recommendation statement from agency employer

IS

Intervention Specialist

Requirements: 
Certification or licensure as an alcohol/drug counselor 
Certificate of Completion for each training/course attended OR school transcripts 
Letter from agency employer or supervisor attesting to hours of experience in intervention specialty services 
Recommendation statement from agency employer

WTS

Women’s Treatment Specialist

Requirements: 
Certification or licensure as an alcohol/drug counselor
