RADT Legacy and Master's Degree
NOTICE
RADT Fee Update Effective August 1, 2025
Beginning August 1, 2025, the Registered Alcohol and Drug Technician (RADT) fees will increase for all levels. The new fee will be $100 for initial applications and $60 for renewals.
Registration Process Overview
Legacy With Masters Degree
Certification in substance use disorder (SUD) counseling is crucial for ensuring high standards of care and professionalism in the field. Organizations like the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP) play a pivotal role in setting these standards. They offer recognized certifications that validate the skills and knowledge of counselors, enhancing their credibility and career prospects. By aligning with CCAPP, counselors can access a wealth of resources, networking opportunities, and professional development options.
State regulations limit this process to five years from the date of initial registration. Registrants must meet all requirements and apply for certification before the expiration date of the fifth year or sooner. In some cases, one can submit a hardship application and get up to two additional years. A hardship must be documented, and CCAPP may award a limited extension upon approval.

Orientation
Completion of an approved nine-hour Orientation Course consisting of ethics, professional boundaries, and confidentiality
CCAPP Code of Conduct
Signed CCAPP Code of Conduct for Registered Alcohol and Drug Technicians. This is a step in the application.
State Code of Conduct
Signed DHCS Code of Conduct for Credentialed (including registered) Alcohol and Drug Professionals. This is a step in the application.
Proof of Degree
Upload proof of your Master's degree in a SUD, mental health, or allied field. You must also submit your transcripts per DHCS regulations to show proof of at least 80 hours of education.
Completed RADT Application
Complete all steps in our online e-application system, called Certemy.
Scope of Practice
Agree to and sign the RADT scope of practice. Read it carefully! This is a step in the application.
Official ID
Upload a copy of your official government ID, such as a driver's license, passport ID, or State ID. This is a step in the application.
Supervisor Information
Provide your supervisor's information. If not working, indicate so and upload a letter noting that you don't currently have a job or supervisor.
Fees
The RADT application fee is $100. This fee is non-refundable.

⚪ Legacy Registrants & Master’s Level Registrants
Definition:
- Individuals registered before AB 2473 implementation who maintain active registration
- OR hold a Master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or marriage/family therapy
Note: These individuals may be exempt from the new core competency requirements depending on their educational background and registration status.

Vary depending on the credential level, but typically involve a minimum of 315 hours of education, 255 hours of supervised practicum, and passing the IC&RC ADC examination.

As their name suggests, CADTP's focus is more on DUI treatment.

Membership
CADTP does not offer individual membership. Membership is exclusively available to DUI treatment programs in California. Member programs receive limited, program-specific benefits, such as access to consultants knowledgeable about current regulations and a free public directory listing. Its primary role is to support and represent DUI programs across the state.

Vary depending on the certification level, but typically involve a specific number of hours of education, supervised work experience, and passing a certification exam.
