Advancing a credential within the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP) involves a clear and structured process, ensuring that all professionals meet rigorous standards. The fees for advancing a credential are $200 for members and $645 for non-members, which cover the necessary exams for the advancement process. If an additional exam is specifically required for advancement, there is an extra fee of $250 (CCAPP Credentialing Handbook, 2023).

The first and most important step in advancing is to complete the Mainline Certification Advancement Form. This allows the CCAPP Credentialing team to review your form and assign you to the appropriate application. To access the form, click here.

The criteria and procedures for advancing a credential within CCAPP (California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals) (CCAPP Credentialing Handbook, 2023):

      1. Applicants must submit a completed application along with required fees, a signed code of conduct, details of their scope of practice, a log documenting supervised counseling experience, and a verification of this experience. If advancing during a renewal period within 60 days of the applicant’s current credential’s expiration date, proof of 50 hours of continuing education must also be submitted.
      2. Submitting a completed application for advancement at least 90 days before the renewal date is critical. Failure to meet this deadline will result in delays in updating the credentials on the registry, potentially affecting employers’ verification. It may also lead to suspension or termination of employment.
      3. Candidates seeking reciprocal credentials (IC&RC) must either reside in a state where certification is sought for at least 51% of the year or have successfully reciprocated their credentials to their state of residence.
      4. Renewal dates remain fixed if an exam to advance to the next credential has been taken.
